$800,000 Approved in 2019 Major Grants Round

Community Trust South has approved new major grants totalling $800,000 in its major grants round for 2019.

“While the total number of applications received was down on 2018 the quality of the community projects approved will create a positive impact within our community” Penny Simmonds, Chair of Community Trust South said.

Fiordland Trails Trust – Te Anau Downs Trail - $250,000

“The trails trust is very pleased to have been successful in obtaining $250,000 from the Community Trust South to go towards the first three legs of a new multi-use trail from Te Anau to Te Anau Downs.  Once again the Community Trust has seen the merit in our project and been an early supporter, which helps us proceed with further planning and fundraising.  Thank you to the Trustees for their time, consideration and vision”. Fiordland Museum Trust - Fiordland Heritage Centre - $300,000

Warwick Cambridge, Chair of Fiordland Heritage Centre said “The Grant received by the Fiordland Museum Trust is one of the foundation steps in obtaining other funding. It demonstrates the community support for this important project, to collect, preserve and share Fiordland’s heritage and stories and the establishment of the Centre as a significant visitor destination with regional and national significance.”

Gore District Council - Maruawai Project Stage Two - The Maruawai Centre - $250,000

“We were delighted to receive confirmation of a $250,000 Community Trust South grant towards Stage Two of our Maruawai Project. This will help fund the adaptive re-use of former retail premises in our Arts & Heritage Precinct.  This building was strategically acquired in 2007 with the aim of developing the ‘Maruawai Centre – a storytelling, visitor and merchandising centre for Gore” Jim Geddes from Gore District Council said.

 “This years grants are going into building infrastructure and establishing facilities that are going to benefit the community for many years to come. A key strategy of Community Trust South is to see communities thrive and these projects will certainly do that” Jackie Flutey, General Manager of Community Trust South.

 Community Trust South provides funding throughout the South covering Southland, Queenstown, Glenorchy, Arrowtown, Tapanui and Heriot areas.  Aside from the Major Grants programme there are various other funding programmes that non profit organisations, community groups and individuals can apply for funding through.
