New Leadership Appointments for Community Trust South

Community Trust South is pleased to announce the appointment of two key leadership roles that will help guide the Trust into its next chapter of community support.

Trustee Bridgette Smith has been appointed as the new Heamana Tuarua/Deputy Chair of the Trust. Residing in Waikaka, Bridgette brings a wealth of experience in business strategy and marketing, alongside her active involvement in several regional boards.

Joining her in a pivotal role is Trustee Warren Skerrett who has been confirmed as the new Investment Committee Chair. Warren’s expertise in navigating complex financial landscapes will be vital in strengthening the Trust’s asset base and ensuring sound investment recommendations to secure the Trust’s future philanthropic impact.

Since its inception in 1988, Community Trust South has distributed over $235 million in funding support for local communities. Heamana/Chair Margot Hishon said that with these new appointments, which were confirmed at the July Board meeting, the Trust is well-positioned to continue this support, empowering communities to fulfil their aspirations and lead enriching lives.

“Bridgette and Warren’s leadership, experience and insight will be instrumental in strengthening the Trust’s governance as we continue to grow and evolve to support our communities,” Heamana/Chair, Mrs Hishon said.

These appointments follow the decisions of the previous Heamana Tuarua/Deputy Chair Stephen Canny, and the previous Investment Committee Chair Mel Montgomery to not reapply for these positions. Heamana/Chair Mrs Hishon acknowledged the valuable contributions made by these two Trustees during their time in these positions, thanking them for their service.

Community Trust South is the guardian of a community endowment of over $250 million. By distributing millions of dollars in grants, scholarships and community loans each year, the Trust works hard to make the south a place where people can thrive.
