Funding Alignment - Sector Funding Review

  • Wednesday, 7 May 2025

Community Trust South is committed to aligning to the needs of our communities. To ensure this is happening, a review of current funding is to be carried out.

Driven by the voices of our communities, our strategic aspiration, a thriving south - Murihiku manawa tōnui, was launched 1 April 2024.

Extensive community engagement paved the foundation of the strategy – which has a new focus on outcomes and is underpinned by our purpose of empowering communities to fulfil their aspirations.

Our communities identified the areas they believed our funding could make the most impact and shaped the strategic pou (priority areas) for our strategy: Strong foundations, people and places, and sustainability and climate.

With the community clear on what they hope the Trust can help them to achieve, it is crucial that the Trust now review if current funding is delivering the desired impact.

As such, Community Trust South will be initiating a funding review.

Sport and Active Recreation Sector

We will initiate this review with the Sport and Active Recreation sector. For 2024,  Community Trust South provided 1.7million funding to this sector (30% of our total funding).

What does this mean for the Sport and Active Recreation Sector

Community voice is essential to the Trust developing an understanding of the strategic alignment of sector funding.

While we have already gained data and insights as part of our application process, we may also distribute a sector survey, or host a community meeting to ensure we have all the information we require.

Review process

The Sport and Active Recreation sector review will begin in June 2025 and involve three parts.

  • Data collection and community engagement.
We will consider the data and insights we have from this sector, and where necessary carry out community engagement to hear the voice of the sector.
  • Impact Assessment
We will review our findings and consider if our funding is delivering the desired impact, and if it is equitable for our identified priority populations
  • Reporting and Recommendations
We will share the results of the sector review.

The Trust looks forward to determining if our funding is best supporting the needs of our communities through this review.
