Southern Field Days is one of Southland’s most iconic events – a world-class agricultural showcase that brings together innovation, community, and the farming sector.

Held on a 60-hectare site, this biennial event is the second-largest agricultural field days in New Zealand, often attracting more than 766 exhibitors and 40,000 visitors. Behind the scenes, it’s powered by an incredible team of 23 volunteers, supported by a part-time caretaker and secretary, all dedicated to delivering an event that Southland can be proud of.

As a not-for-profit organisation, Southern Field Days continually strives to add value to the community by providing premier events and facilities that are truly unique. Their vision is clear: to create a world-class agricultural platform, enabling exhibitors to showcase the latest products and innovations to the wider farming community.

In 2015, Community Trust South proudly supported Southern Field Days with funding to complete two essential infrastructure projects – the construction of a new toilet block and the relocation of the office. These improvements were critical to meeting compliance requirements and enhancing the comfort and functionality of the site for exhibitors and visitors alike.

The new toilet facilities ensured the site could cater to large crowds efficiently, while the relocated office provided a practical base for the dedicated volunteer team who make this event possible. These upgrades strengthened Southern Field Days’ ability to host a truly world-class event and created opportunities for other community and agricultural activities throughout the year.

Southern Field Days is more than an event, it’s a vital platform for innovation, collaboration, and growth in Southland’s rural sector. Community Trust South’s investment in 2015 helped lay the foundation for continued success, ensuring this iconic event remains a highlight on the agricultural calendar and delivers benefits that ripple through the region.
