We offer major grant rounds subject to our investment returns, capital rebuild and our annual grants budget. We decide annually whether a major grants round will be held in our next financial year.
Major grant rounds are announced as widely as possible, so we encourage you to keep an eye on our News & Events and follow us on Facebook.
These grants are for applications requesting over $100,000 and are for significant community projects and services that help us to support thriving communities.
There is a two-stage application process:

Major grants support significant community projects that strongly align with at least one or more of our funding priorities, that are about the people, communities and activities we want our funding to support. Your application will be stronger if you can meet some of these.
Working with communities to ensure people participate, are supported, empowered and cared for.
Working with communities to ensure people participate, celebrate, and preserve our arts, heritage and culture.
Working with communities to ensure every person has the opportunity to achieve their potential.
Working with communities to ensure they are connected, successful, resilient and dynamic.
Within these four pillars we have specific priorities we want our funding to support, and your application will be stronger if you can meet some of these.
Please see Our Strategic Vision for details on our priorities in each pillar.

EOIs are made online. If you haven’t applied to us before you need to register by providing your name, organisation and email address as well as creating a password – it only takes a moment.
Once registered, you can log in at any time to start an EOI or to access it again later, so you can work on it over time. You need to complete the form - briefly outlining the project and what the grant is for. To help you prepare you can also download the form so you can see the questions we ask.
An EOI must be submitted to be considered in our Major Grant funding round.
Full applications: Open 1 June 2019, Close 15 August 2019
Notification of decision: 21 November 2019
These are made online and, if your EOI has been successful, you will be sent a link and instructions on how to access the full application. Through this link you'll also be able to download a PDF of the form so you can see the questions we ask.
To help you prepare, here is a handy guide on the type of information that is useful to include in any letters of support.
If you are applying for a major grant for a project that involves capital works, the purchase of a building, structure or land, as part of the application we’ll ask you to include an Asset Management and Maintenance Plan. We've also included a template to include in your application.
To help ensure we make the best decisions, for the benefit of our community, part of our assessment process for major grants involves the Trust seeking external expertise to provide a written peer review on applications submitted. Our aim is to engage peer reviewers with expertise relevant to the sector and type of project proposed in an application. Find out more here and for the terms and conditions of peer review.
These will be held early November 2019.
We carry out an initial review of your EOI to make sure you can apply. After considering all EOIs, decisions are made by trustees on which organisations and projects will be invited to submit a full application.
Our staff review your application to help trustees to make an informed decision. We’ll contact you to ask further questions about your project and also:
We aim to treat and assess all applications fairly, based on their individual merits and in the context of other grants being considered and funding available. Our trustees make the final decisions on all applications.
