Community Trust South reports 2026 financial results and ongoing community support

Community Trust South, Te Pou Arataki Pounamu o Murihiku, has released its financial results for the year ending 31 March 2026, highlighting continued investment in communities alongside a focus on strengthening the Trust's long-term financial position.

At year end, the Trust's investment portfolio was valued at $266 million and delivered a return of 6.20%, compared with an investment objective of 7.1%. Over the past five years, the portfolio has generated an average annual return of 4.0%, compared to its investment objective of 8.4%.

While returns were below target, the Trust continued its support for its communities, approving $5.83 million in funding across 494 grants. Together, these grants supported a wide range of organisations and initiatives working to create positive outcomes across the Trust's area.

During the year, the Trust implemented several strategic enhancements to its portfolio, including a new 10% allocation to Growth Alternatives and the appointment of Blackstone as a second Unlisted Property Manager. These changes further diversify the portfolio, broaden sources of return and strengthen its ability to navigate changing market conditions.

Trust Heamana/Chair Margot Hishon said a long-term view continued to guide the Trust's investment decisions.

"While returns were below our objective this year, the portfolio delivered a positive result in a challenging investment environment. Maintaining a long-term perspective remains important, and the strategic enhancements made this year strengthen our position for the future."

Chief Executive Officer Jackie Flutey said careful stewardship of the Trust's investment fund remained central to delivering lasting community benefit.

"The funding we provide to communities is made possible by the long-term performance of our investment portfolio. That's why we're committed to ensuring the Trust remains well-positioned to support both current and future generations."

Since inception, the Trust has now distributed $246 million to communities throughout its funding region.

Community Trust South will hold its Annual Public Meeting to formally present its annual report and financial results at 5:30pm on Wednesday, 30 September 2026 at Murihiku Marae. Members of the public are warmly invited to attend, for catering purposes please RSVP by Wednesday 23 September
