Luke’s Mum Jo Horrell is a big fan of fluro vests for kids. We supported Road Safety Southland’s initiative in 2005 to provide a fluorescent safety vest for all rural school children to wear when they were walking to and from school and getting on and off school buses. It was an ambitious project and a first for NZ. It engendered much community goodwill.
“We live on a 100kmh road and our kids have to catch the bus. It’s a pretty busy road with lots of trucks going past at all times of the day, and for us there’s just no way that they’re allowed to go out on the road to catch the bus or to get off the bus without their vests because it makes it so easy for everybody to see them. “
